Twitter has been experiencing frequent outages in recent months, with the latest one being the sixth this year. The website did not completely go down, but it caused a variety of issues, including an error message that showed when users clicked any link on the platform, and users being unable to post images.

While previous outages affected third-party applications, the latest one was caused by an engineer who mistakenly made a change to the live version of the website. This error has led to concerns about Twitter’s reliability, and some have suggested that the platform’s occasional errors may add up to a more systemic problem.

The engineer’s mistake was caused by a lack of oversight, which could be attributed to the significant reduction in Twitter’s engineering team. Steven Murdoch, a professor of security engineering at University College London, has pointed out that fewer people monitoring systems mean minor problems might not be caught before they escalate.
